HOW WE TRACK LIONS IN TANZANIA
Lion tracking is an adventure in itself! Focusing on tracking lions whilst going on safari through the great African outdoors can be extremely exciting. One of the best places to observe and track lions is in Tanzania. Tanzania is home to some of the most renowned National Parks in the continent and is also an ideal place to track lions in the wild Africa.
Two of the top 5 National Parks in Africa to see lions are both situated in Tanzania. The Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti is a particularly interesting place to track lions as not only is it one of the best wilderness regions of Africa but it also plays a part in the Great Migration spectacle. During this time, there are many varieties of lion progressions interesting to see. Ngorongoro Crater is equally as fascinating for lions too, but we’ll go into more detail about that later on in the article.
Within this post we tell you all about how we track lions in Tanzania on our groundbreaking African Lion Safari, what exercises we use to efficiently observe and learn about lions, how you can track lions yourself and where the best and most interesting spots are to watch lions in Tanzania. We will also be talking about how to delve deeper into lion tracking, monitoring and much more in this comprehensive article.

HOW WE TRACK LIONS
Tracking lions on our adventures is something we take pride in doing as well as showing our guests how we do it. It is a uniquely interesting and compelling way to spend a safari adventure in Africa, and many travelers and lion enthusiasts are enticed to join an adventure that serves a larger impact and one where travelers have a chance to make a difference.
Let us tell you a little more about our groundbreaking African Lion Safari adventure. Travelers can focus on lion conservation while we journey through Tanzania tracking lions to learn about them, the obstacles they face, pride dynamics, where they roam and why, fascinating facts, historical lions of Africa as well as everything in between.
Our revolutionary African Lion Safari is developed to bridge lion conservation with adventure travel. It's a contemporary but effortless way for people to join, with no previous experience or knowledge, just a passion to learn about lions and enjoy an adventure of a lifetime simultaneously.
Tanzania is brimming with exciting experiences and sights to see, from its beautiful savannahs, rock formations and landscapes to its vibrant cultures and array of wonderful wildlife from Elephants to tropical birds - Tanzania packs a punch in what it can offer.
Our journey to track lions in Tanzania begins in Arusha where we will enjoy our first night in Africa, the following day we drive to one of Tanzania’s most sought after attractions - Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Within the Crater of Ngorongoro, we will observe lions for the first time and learn about the modest number of big cats who reside there. We will also get to know some of the resident lions who have amazingly escaped the crater walls. Their stories are nothing short of fascinating. We venture onto Lake Manyara where we will track the ever elusive tree-climbing lions that only exist in this region. We venture high into the tree-tops to observe the lake from a birds eye view as well as spot lions from above.
Lion prides galore are upon us as we head to track resident lions in the Serengeti. As well as enjoying the bounty of nature this park has to offer, we begin our search for lions in Tanzania within the biggest National Park in all of Africa.
Our expert lion guides will show us where the most prominent and intriguing lion prides are so we can get to observe them in the Serengeti’s most beautiful setting. Lions in the Serengeti are fascinating and because the region is so vast, we will also have the opportunity to not just observe lions from the comfort of our safari vehicle but from the great outdoors when we enjoy a nature walk to track lion spoors and find clues of roaming lions in the area. This nature walk allows us to get a closer look from the grounds of the earth and in the presence of lion country. Our guests will learn a greater amount about lions during this practice. During our time here, guests will be exposed to lions in the Serengeti at night. We will be rustic camping to expose travelers to the greatest sounds of the wilderness - lion roars from afar. What we love to do is immerse our guests to lions through sights and sounds amongst the uninterrupted nature of earthy Tanzania. Our expert guides enjoy covering all that they can teach our guests about lions in Tanzania through their wealth of knowledge.
Our adventure and insights continue when we have the privilege to have two exclusive talks with two of the most renowned lion conservation organizations - Kope Lion and African People Wildlife. Not only will you gain a sharper insight into lion conservation and lions in Tanzania but the obstacles they face and the tireless work they do to keep lions thriving within the area. These opportunities offer our guests to connect and further their lion impact journey should they wish to through the contacts and connections they make here.
Aside from learning and tracking lions in Tanzania, we concurrently enjoy an adventure of a lifetime. We hike the great Olmoti Crater, we visit the Great Rift Valley Escarpment with astonishing views, enjoy Big 5 spotting and relish in a cultural Masaai experience and more.
Fusing lion tracking in Tanzania with making a positive impact is something we strive through every adventure.
Through the resources, contacts and information we offer our guests on our African Lion Safari - they are able to further their efforts in benefiting lion conservation if they choose to.
The adventure isn’t just a chance to combine a life-changing experience whilst learning about lion conservation, it’s an opportunity to interweave your interests to create your own unique impact. Every guest will gain something different out of the adventure and choose to use these resources at will. It's an ideal chance for our guests to further their unique impact as an extension to the trip.
We will eventually be delving deeper into lion monitoring when we expand our Lion Safari Adventures to other countries in Africa. We will be exposed to different prides, different dynamics, different experiences and get to learn more about the ever fascinating lion than ever.
HOW YOU CAN TRACK LIONS ON YOUR OWN
Tracking lions in Tanzania could never be easier and if you would like to combine it into your next safari adventure, then we have some great advice for you.
If you have already booked a safari in Africa, it's probably safe to say that your guide will be showing you the Big 5. You’ll also be witnessing a fair few lions as you venture around the National Park you decided to visit.
A great way to focus on lions is to use your safari guide as a fountain of knowledge and to ask as many questions about lions and lion conservation as you can. Take a pen and writing pad with you to make notes on what you have learnt and what questions you are inspired to ask. It’s a great way to remember everything and reflect back on when you return home.
In some African countries, it is possible to book a walking safari. A walking safari is when you walk outside within nature and follow routes with your guide to inspect smaller animals and critters that you don’t see from a safari vehicle. It’s also good to investigate animal footprints and go to areas where a safari vehicle can’t go to uncover other findings.
We highly recommend doing this and seeing if there are ways in which you can concentrate on lions whilst you walk with your guide. Some wildlife walks focus on observing and tracking predators such as lions - these walks would be an ideal experience to take part in.
Another great way to learn about lions is to visit any reputable wildlife sanctuaries or lion sanctuaries whilst you are in Africa. It is essential to not take part in any ‘walk-with’ animal experiences that exposes wild animals to human interaction - this is highly discouraged.
It's important to do your research and visit the sanctuaries that are benefiting the animals, helping them strive and looking after them in the best way possible.
There are an array of volunteering opportunities too where you will learn about lions and other wild animals more indepthly than on any regular safari. Take a look at our three reputable organizations to learn more about lions: Best Lion Experiences To Take Part In Africa
