The sea is also very calm too, so if you aren't an avid surfer or love wave hopping - then the Maldives ocean is just for you. 4. FRENCH POLYNESIA

Many people ask where the French Polynesia islands are, and they are located right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean between Australia and South America. These islands consist of 118 coral and volcanic islands including the famous Bora Bora and Tahiti.

The reason why it's called French Polynesia is because France took possession in 1880 and these vast stretches of islands are extremely valuable to them. Mainly because the size of them collectively, are bigger than Europe.

These islands are some of the most relaxing in the world and many refer to them as ‘paradise on earth’. Because of their far-flung location, they are still very much untouched by tourists, making it a wonderfully authentic place to visit.

The beauty of these islands come to life in the azure blue waters, white sands, mountainous backdrop and vibrant green plants and trees. It's like a picture perfect dream where you will find many quiet places to be at peace.

However, if you are interested in some light hearted adventures - you will be pleased to know there are many animals you can meet on your journey within these islands. Especially sea animals - swim with stingrays, observe sharks and dolphins, and there is always a turtle or two to see wherever you go. The coral is also beautiful to explore too. These islands allow you to feel free, adventurous and spirited - unlike anywhere else in the world, they offer a certain magic that nowhere else can.

7. BALI, INDONESIA

Fashionable Bali is a small island located in Indonesia. The capital of Bali is Denpasar and even though this hot-spot attracts a huge amount of tourists, there are still many activities you can choose to do that will allow you to experience peace and quiet.

One of the reasons why so many people flock to Bali is because of the rich combination of Hinduism culture, the vibrant art scene, performance and dance that fill the island and the collection of breathtaking mountains as well as beautiful beaches. These beaches are fascinating as each one is extremely different from the other. Some have limestone cliffs and others are remote with calm waters, but all have gorgeously white sands.

You will need to plan your vacation ahead of time if you want to dodge the crowds and opt for the tranquil excursions. Our advice is to include trekking some of the incredible mountains, visiting the rice fields in Sidemen and temples, venturing to Ubud otherwise known as the cultural and spiritual haven, enjoying the varied spas and beaches, and not to forget choosing a meditation or yoga class to unleash your inner zen. If you are traveling solo - Bali is also a relaxing place to visit alone too.

The swirling sands and seas of Whitsunday Islands - ultimate bliss and peace await you here / Image: @lochieriordan

8. WHITSUNDAY ISLANDS, AUSTRALIA

Many people haven't heard of the Whitsunday Islands in Australia and it's no surprise. These islands are particularly far-flung especially if you are traveling from the USA or Europe.

This collection of islands are situated around 35 miles off the coast of Queensland and offer the tropical paradise you’ve been searching for. The Whitsunday Islands have it all from aquamarine waters amongst swirling sandy beaches, deserted coastlines and luxurious villas and hotels. It's one of the most peaceful places on earth because it's so relaxing within an incredibly idyllic setting.

One of the best things about the Whitsunday Islands is that they are incredibly close to the Great Barrier Reef, which is a huge highlight when traveling here. However, there are also so many other great excursions to relish in too. And mostly all will provide you with peace and calm.

Why not see the rippling waters in Whitehaven? Where the flowing sands and seas swirl conjure up a beautiful palette of turquoise and blues. There's also the possibility of snorkeling and diving into the Great Barrier Reef to experience an underwater safari of a lifetime. If that isn’t your cup of tea, how about sailing around the islands in your very own private boat or staying overnight at a remote eco island retreat? Whatever you decide to do, you will experience ultimate bliss in these magical islands.

9. THE SERENGETI, AFRICA

The Serenegti is not only a truly magical place, it's one of the last great wonders of the world as well as being one of the most peaceful places to visit too.

The vast Serengeti ecosystem spans over 120,000 square miles, making it an extraordinary stretch of wilderness that hosts a diverse variety of wildlife and landscapes.

It is so big, that there are countless opportunities to roam the savannah’s alone without an animal to see or a safari vehicle to spot for hours.

Safari’s can occasionally be very hectic and to constantly be in pursuit of animals, like numerous other travelers, can get rather busy. However, if you opt for the right excursions and activities, you can experience a calming adventure observing animals in the quiet and stillness of the sunlight.

Avoid the hustle and bustle and steer clear of the cultural experiences as this attracts many tourists and can get rather loud on occasion. The Great Migration can also get swamped too - not just the hundreds of galloping hooves but the amount of safari vehicles that observe the animals can feel like a traffic jam in some locations.

Our advice if you want a relaxing experience is to opt for a private safari adventure with just you and your companions, go for a relaxing hot air balloon ride, visit the Moru Kopjes Rock Formations or saunter along on a pleasant walking safari.

Elephants are a wonderful source for peace and quiet and merely watching them is known to be extremely relaxing.
